Rural Dweller Scheme (RDS)

The Rural Dweller Scheme offers part-time, paid work to people living in rural areas of County Louth, while supporting local community and environmental projects.

A pilot scheme based on the Rural Social Scheme, started January 2026

What’s involved?

If you join the Rural Dweller Scheme, you will work 19.5 hours per week on community-based work such as environmental and village maintenance, caretaking of community facilities, and supporting local community groups. You continue to receive your social welfare payment, plus an extra weekly top-up, just like the Rural Social Scheme.
